Razer Viper Ultimate Design
The gaming mouse has a completely symmetrical design and an elongated shape, which immediately disposes the user to a certain type of grip – palm or “pincer”. The upper part can be roughly divided into two halves: pressure plates and a body with the Razer logo.
It is worth noting that the transition between these two parts is separated by small depressions, the thin ends of which are highlighted with glossy plastic.
The pressure plates are wide and long. Between them is a long niche for the mouse scroll wheel. The wheel itself slightly protrudes 1–1.5 mm above the surface of the body, and the wheel rim is made of rubberized material with a ribbed relief.
The left and right sides of the manipulator are identical and are made of a rubberized coating with a relief in the form of small hexagons. On the left side there are two navigation buttons with a glossy surface, which protrude slightly from the body by 0.5–1 mm. So, despite the symmetrical design, the mouse is comfortable only for right-handers.
The game pad features one customizable RGB lighting zone in the Razer logo video. In the proprietary application, you can select the operating mode, synchronize the backlighting of all connected devices, or select an individual color for each from the list.
On the front end of the manipulator there is a micro-USB B port, which, if necessary, allows you to connect the mouse directly to the computer using a cable from the kit, without an adapter. This can be useful in a scenario if you suddenly run out of battery power in your mouse (designed for 70 hours of battery life) and you need to resume your functionality as soon as possible.
On the bottom of the device, there are five unusual white Teflon plates, which provide a comfortable sliding of the device on the rug.
Separately, there is a niche with a sensor, which also has a Teflon sliding plate around the perimeter.
At the bottom there is a socket for connecting to a charging station. To the right of it is the power switch of the device.
Above is the button for changing the profile, with a colored LED indicator. Pressing the button leads to a sequential change of the device profile, and the color of the LED additionally informs about the selected profile.
By default, the device has five different profiles, which in turn can be customized to suit your needs in the proprietary Razer Synapse software. This arrangement of the profile change button is unusual, but the user will not be able to touch this button accidentally during the game.
The calculation is based on the fact that before starting the game, you yourself choose the appropriate profile and use it, and when you change the game or activity, change the profile to another.
There is also a small removable cover at the top that hides a niche for easy storage and carrying of the wireless adapter.
We will tell you separately about the charging station.
In its general form, it is a pyramid truncated at an angle, which is equipped with its own individual lighting and looks great on the table. There are two spring-loaded contacts on the upper platform. Below them is a small built-in magnet that guides the manipulator into the desired grooves when installed on charging. Therefore, the user does not need to think about the correct orientation of the mouse, the magnet aligns it automatically. It’s comfortable.
Above the charging contacts, there is a small niche where you can install a wireless adapter so as not to plug it into a port on your PC.
The rear side of the station is equipped with an inconspicuous recessed port for connecting a cable. Moreover, the niche is equipped with guiding grooves that will not allow you to connect a third-party cable, and also will not allow you to connect the branded cable with the wrong side.
The branded cable itself is equipped with a protective textile coating. USB type A plug is engraved with Razer; and on the other end there is a plug with the inscription “Top”, which unambiguously tells you how to orient the cable when connecting.
Let’s take a look inside the body of our game pad.
It can be seen that the components on the board are located tightly, all the contacts are neatly soldered.
Chang Feng (CF) switches are used for navigation buttons.
The battery is covered with a small insulating black cover. Its 480 mAh capacity should be enough for almost 70 hours of battery life.
For the main mouse buttons are used proprietary optical switches Razer Optical Mouse Switch with a declared resource of 70 million clicks.
At the scroll wheel of the mouse, you can clearly see the relief of the contact part.
The Razer Focus + optical sensor, judging by the PAW3399DM-T4QU marking, is produced at the facilities of the PixArt company. This same sensor model can be found in several other Razer gaming controllers.
The Razer Focus + optical sensor, according to the manufacturer, provides increased cursor positioning accuracy when moving the pointing device over the surface. The computer processes the received data stream from the manipulator with its own clock frequency, and the Motion Sync technology is designed to synchronize the data transmission cycle from the manipulator with the receipt of information, which ultimately allows to increase the cursor positioning accuracy.
In addition to the ability to adjust the Lift Off Distance of the mouse, the Viper Ultimate is equipped with Asymmetric Cut-Off technology, which allows you to select the minimum height at which the cursor position will be read. By default, the lower the minimum read height, the better.
It also allows the device to automatically adapt the tear-off height based on the type of mat surface being used by the user.
Progress has not spared the switches of the main buttons of gaming mice. More recently, purely mechanical switches have been widely used in gaming controllers, but now Razer Optical Mouse Switch have become available to users, for which longer life is promised.
In addition to the resource, optical switches provide reduced response
to 0.2 milliseconds. This is possible due to the fact that the moment when the switch is triggered is not determined by closing the contacts, but by reading the light beam on the receiver. In comparison, in the case of mechanical switches, the latency can be between 18 and 30 ms, although such small values are unlikely to be noticed by the user. If you are an amateur player who plays on free evenings, then you probably won’t notice the difference. However, if the player is limited by mechanical contacts, switching to optical switches would be a logical step. Then sooner or later you will catch yourself thinking that you did not have time to press the button in time at certain moments.
Razer branded software
Most recently, we released a review of the Razer Huntsman v2 Analog gaming keyboard, where we examined in detail the proprietary software Razer Synapse, Razer Central and Razer Cortex, so in order not to repeat ourselves, we suggest that you go and read everything important here .
Practice
We tested the mouse in the following games: Path of Exile, Mordhau, New World, osu !, Hunt: Showdown, Friday the 13th: The Game, Phasmophobia, Escape from Tarkov.
It is worth noting the generally convenient form of the device. The elongated mouse fits comfortably in an open palm and is firmly held by outstretched fingers.
The scroll wheel requires a noticeable amount of effort to rotate. Perhaps this was done deliberately in order to exclude accidental scrolling during the game, but when working with text information, when page scrolling is actively used, this can be annoying, slowing down the process.
The mouse feels lighter in the palm of your hand than some other wireless pointing devices. Lighter weight allows less effort while accurately positioning the cursor on the monitor screen. The reduced mass allows players in “shooters” to make sharp movements (the so-called “flick”) while maintaining tight control over the manipulator as a whole.
The optical sensor is not satisfactory. High resolution up to 20,000 dpi is certainly good, it is obvious that the higher the value, the better, but not everyone really needs such values. On average, most are satisfied with a resolution of 4000 dpi, but acceleration at 650 IPS provides precise control over the cursor during fast movements at short distances.
The backlight of the keypad can only be noticed when the device is at the charging station. By the way, charging is exactly the accessory that will definitely fit into the place on your desktop. In addition to the fact that the station reliably adheres to the surface of the table due to the sticky plate on the bottom, it is equipped with individual illumination and, even without a mouse installed for recharging, creates an atmosphere, especially in the twilight.
When installing the manipulator on charging, a magnet in the surface of the station helps to quickly and accurately dock the devices. The mouse is put on charge without looking, quickly and confidently, in one movement.
In the proprietary software, as in the classics of the genre, you can set up profiles, record and assign macros, select a backlight mode, etc. Everything as we love.
The idea of placing a profile switch button on the bottom of the device and equipping it with a color LED indicator is simple and ingenious. When the profile change button is next to the main buttons, then in a hot battle, you can accidentally click on it. It is unpleasant. In the case of the Viper Ultimate, accidental clicks are excluded.
Razer Viper Ultimate Diagnosis
The Razer Viper Ultimate is an entertaining and effortless gaming mouse that caters to gamers of all levels. It offers customizable profile settings and minimizes the signal delay when pressing the main buttons, thanks to its optical switches.
One of the standout features of the Viper Ultimate is its incredibly lightweight design, weighing in at only 74 grams. This makes it a close competitor to the Aerox 3 Wireless.
This mouse offers two modes of operation – wireless and wired, providing a backup option in case of battery failure. The only drawback noted is the absence of a battery level indicator on the mouse case. Users have to rely on the Razer Synapse app to check the battery level, although the claimed battery life of up to 70 hours should be sufficient for most use cases.
The Viper Ultimate is available for purchase for approximately 10,490 rubles, providing gamers with a high-quality product with a comfortable design, minimal weight, wireless connectivity, an innovative charging station, and top-notch optical sensors and switches. All in all, it truly is the ultimate gaming mouse.
