The new Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro is a good piece of equipment for a relatively reasonable price. The model differs from competitors by its minimalist design, high performance and low operating costs. But, the Chinese application can make many refuse to buy.
A big plus compared to its predecessors is the changed levels of air quality, which are now closer to European standards.
Smog is a common problem, and even if you don’t live in a metropolitan area, like me, you probably still feel the effects. Although smog has been with us for a long time, many have learned about the unpleasant consequences of living in it or with it relatively recently. It is worth taking care of yourself in advance and restricting his access to our apartments and houses. Xiaomi’s Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro air purifier should help us with this.

Considering the characteristics, the value for money seems quite good. If you compare operating costs, you need to look at the price of the filter, which will have to be changed after a while. The only suitable filter I could find also removes formaldehyde. Its price is about 3.5 thousand rubles, which is quite a competitive offer.

Design and appearance
Despite the features, air purifiers on the market vary greatly in design, often the more expensive the equipment, the more elegant it looks.
How is the situation with the Xiaomi model? If you have ever seen any Xiaomi smart home appliances, then the minimalist appearance of the Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro will not surprise you. Plus, if you’ve used the company’s previous cleaners, then you know what to expect.
The edges of the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro case are rounded, and the height is 68 cm – a kind of white column with a square base. Square sides of 27 centimeters each when the entire purifier weighs less than 7 kilograms. The perforated bottom are the inlets, while the outlets are at the top, where we can also find a valve with the Xiaomi logo.
After opening the valve, you will see a screw that allows you to disassemble the top part and clean the fan blades. In general, everything looks quite stylish and minimalistic.
On the front panel of the device there is an OLED display through which interaction with the equipment takes place. We can find out the current concentration of PM2.5 dust, the degree of coarse pollution (up to 10 microns), temperature and air humidity.
There was a place here for the negative ions icon, WiFi connection, and the current mode of operation of the purifier. In addition, at the bottom of the screen, there is something resembling a work indication strip, as well as two buttons – power and mode change. Despite the abundance of information in a small panel, you should not have problems with readability.
The power cable included with the purifier is 1.5 m long, but there is no room in the case to hide the excess. On the back of the purifier there is a button that adjusts the brightness of the display, a laser particle sensor and a shutter, thanks to which we can get to the filter.
Work and performance
Xiaomi equipped its Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro with a 3-in-1 filter: pre-filter, HEPA H13 and carbon.
According to the manufacturer, it will last from 6 months to a year. For me, after almost three weeks of work, the resource showed 274 days, which would be less than 9 months. The recommended area of premises is from 35 to 60 square meters. I used Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro in a small 2-room apartment and it worked very well. The standard PM2.5 level was maintained below 10 µg/m3.
With a sharp increase in air pollution, for example, as a result of frequent and prolonged opening of the front door, in automatic mode it took 25 minutes for the purifier to go from 80 micrograms to an acceptable 20 micrograms. Of course, this time would be reduced if I manually set the maximum and noisiest mode.
But, even the automatic mode worked very efficiently and quickly adjusts the device to the surrounding conditions. Also, the electronics don't wait for high levels of dirt, like in the Air Purifier 3h, to speed up the cleaning job.
As the standards have become more stringent, Air Purifier 4 Pro considers air up to 20 micrograms to be excellent, up to 30 micrograms to be good, up to 50 micrograms to be average, and anything above it to be polluted. I also managed to check the equipment for harmful and dangerous values, and the Xiaomi purifier dealt with them surprisingly quickly. The limit levels of pollution are in accordance with the European Air Quality Index.
Although the purifier is quite quiet (33.7 decibels in night mode, and 65 dB at maximum power, according to the manufacturer), I did not use it in the bedroom, because of the very quiet and intermittent noise. However, there is no annoying fan noise here.
Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro app and control
Theoretically, the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro can be used without an app, but you will have to constantly reach for it in everyday life.
Let’s take a look at what the software offers. To get started, the Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro needs to be connected to 2.4GHz WiFi using the Xiaomi Home app. The main screen will display all the important information about PM2.5 and large air pollutants. Below you can see the main indicators related to the environment: temperature and humidity.

From this level, you can turn off the cleaner or select one of the available modes:
- Auto – regulates the operation of the device itself.
- Night mode is required to use while you sleep.
- Manual – here you can set the fan speed.
- And the preset mode, in which we choose one of the three predefined settings.
Under the operating mode selection field, there is a negative ion switch, the estimated number of days the filter will work, the purifier on/off schedule, and a choice of one of the three available screen brightness options. There is also a child lock so that our little ones do not turn on the maximum power.
Additional functions and information are hidden under the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen. Although the Xiaomi Home app supports dark mode, the cleaner section does not.
Outcome
Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Pro is a useful device, and its reasonable price sets it apart from the competition. The purifier not only looks good and fits into most interiors, but also effectively cleans the air.
Air purification standards have become more reasonable, and now comply with European standards. The only downside is that the filter, when working in my home, is enough for 6, not 12 months. But, since I do not plan to use the equipment in the summer season, I will still change the filter once a year.
